Please note that all student final exams will take place June 11th - 15th. An exact schedule for each class will be sent home shortly.
Dear Students and Parents, The secondary science fair will be held on Thursday May 25th. All projects are due Tuesday the 23rd. The rubric for this project can be found below. The topic of the science fair must be approved prior to completion and must contain all categories listed in the rubric. The initial research will be done in class on the week of April 23 - 27. After that the project must be completed at home. Materials will only be supplied if requested. I look forward to seeing the fun and innovative projects you create. Dear Parents and Students,
Please note that Wednesday April 26th and Thursday April 27th will be parent teacher conferences. Due to a commitment in Doha on Wednesday, I will only be able to meet with you between 10:00 am and 1:45 pm on Thursday. If this does not work for you, you may schedule a private meeting for another time or choose to have your child visit another one of their secondary teachers. Please make sure to book the appointment using the slip sent home and specify which teacher you would like to see. Ms. Christine Due to excessive copying and plagiarism seen last week, late work will no longer be accepted for the year 8 students. The only exception is if the student is absent the day their work is due. In this case, the work must be turned in the day of their return.
During term 2 all students in year 7 will be conducting a field study out at Purple Island. Students will leave on Sunday at the start of lesson 2 and return at the end of lesson 4. They will be chaperoned by myself and their homeroom teacher Mr. Craig. They will be conducting tasks for both classes while out each week.
They will need to bring:
*Students may NOT bring their phones on the trip. *Students are expected to be in school uniform before and after the trip. Hello and welcome back for the 2016 - 2017 school year. My name is Ms. Christine and I will one of the science teachers this year at EMS.
I am excited to begin the new school year and hope that your family is excited too! I am looking forward to teaching years 7 and 8 general science, IGCSE Biology for years 10 and 11, and a brand new course, child development, for incoming year 10s. I am originally from the US but have lived abroad for the past three years. I graduated from St. Olaf College with a degree in both biology and education. This will be my second year working in the science department at EMS – Al Khor. Student’s this year will learn a variety of topics, depending on their year group. Years 7 and 8 will split their topics between the three terms. Term 1 will be focused on biology, in term 2 they’ll start getting into chemistry, and then in term 3 they’ll end their year studying topics in physics. Years 10 and 11 will focus solely on biology as they begin their preparations for the IGCSE Exams. Child Development is a new course to EMS which will cover the physical, mental, and social development of a child from conception to age 7. Throughout the year students will be given a variety of assignments to take home and complete. I encourage you to ask them about their projects and guide them in their studies as best you can. I look forward to seeing everyone back at school and meeting those who are new this year. See you Sunday! Ms. Christine |
