https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/zoe-bands-aiding-refugees-spreading-compassion--2#/ What is tinikling?Tinikling is the national folk dance of the Philippines. The dance is performed with two individuals beating two 8' to 12’ long poles, usually bamboo, in a given rhythm. Dancers move in varied foot patterns (sequences) through the poles. *One of the histories of Tinikling: when Spaniards ruled Spain and wanted to punish the indigenous Filipino workers they would have other workers beat a pair of bamboo poles together trapping ankles of the 'misbehaving' Filipinos. To keep from being injured the Filipino's developed rhythms to keep the workers from being further injured. Another history explains how farmers set bamboo traps in the rice paddies to trap local "Tikling birds", which would eat the rice seedlings. Children watching how the bird would evade the traps by stepping through the bamboo invented the game! Tinikling involves coordination, group work and problem solving, sequencing, cardiovascular and flexibility fitness components, as well as being fun! Enjoy the video about tinikling... |
