Topographical Maps

Ordnance Survey or OS maps are maps of places, that have a lot of detail in them. They use symbols to show things on the maps and numbered grid lines to help us find our way around them.
Now using your knowledge of maps, the key/legend, grid references, directions and symbols, you will be answering the questions on page 38 of you G1T.
A map should always have a north pointing arrow to orientate us. This shows us the direction in which north is so that we have a starting point from which to work. Read through the description on the top of page 36 to prepare you for today's tasks. Now look at these videos for an introduction of mapping directions
Once completed, click here to do some practice work on using a compass rose. This is what we call the star on a map that indicates direction.
